Have you ever dreamed about going on stage to the sound of the cheers of your adoring fans? It’s exciting to think that one day you could land a recording contract and tour the world, playing your own music to sold out venues. And I’m sure that with hard work and dedication, you’ll make that dream come true!
In the meantime, you should make sure that some of that hard work is invested in building a buzz and a fan base. It’s important that while you’re on the quest for a recording contract, that you are performing for as many people as possible and developing a following. How do you do that? It’s really quite easy. Here are a few tips:
- Research open mic opportunities near you. Be sure to perform at an open mic at least once a week.
- Send a cover letter, headshot and demo to all of the club managers in your area and request a gig.
- Build your online presence. You don’t have to spend lots of money on a website. A profile on www.StarSearchCasting.com or a Myspace music page is a great way to share your music with lots of potential fans.
- Whenever you perform, always have music available to sell, or promotional copies to hand out. Be sure to include your website or Star Search Casting page address on your promotional materials.
When it comes to building a buzz, a little bit goes a long way. Incorporating strategies like the ones I’ve just mentioned are a great way to not only build a buzz, but also begin building a successful career.
