Dealing With Rejection In The Entertainment Business

I was talking to a parent of a young actor one day and she mentioned that if she known how much rejection her child was going to face in the entertainment industry, she never would have taken him to his first audition.

The reality is that no one gets every part they audition for. In fact, most actors don’t get the majority of the roles they audition for. And while it can be difficult to endure, you must remember that it’s something that everyone in the industry goes through. You’re not alone, so don’t get discouraged!

Would you believe that the same parent I mentioned before later was overjoyed when her son booked a number of roles on major networks such as Nickelodeon and ABC. So you see, rejection doesn’t have to be a roadblock to your success. Instead, turn it into a learning experience.

It’s important not to dwell on what you did wrong. Often, you haven’t done anything wrong at all. Casting directors look for very specific things. You simply were right for that part at that time. It doesn’t mean that you won’t be right for the next opportunity. Stay positive!

Remaining positive is one of the biggest keys to success for any aspiring actor, dancer, singer or model. Keep your spirits up and carry your great attitude and determination to your next audition, and who knows, you just may book the role of your dreams sooner than you think.
